Kolkata: In celebration of Sustainability Month, The We Foundation launched the Tree Tributes: Planting Rajarhat’s Green Future initiative on June 5th, 2024, in honor of World Environment Day. This tree plantation drive aimed to make a significant impact on the environment by enhancing the green cover in Rajarhat, Greater Kolkata. The goal was simple yet powerful: by planting trees, we can absorb more carbon, improve air quality, and foster biodiversity in the region, all while contributing to India’s national climate action efforts.
The event brought together 30 passionate members from The We Foundation, along with partners and local volunteers, to work together for a common cause. On this meaningful day, 50 saplings were planted at Green Verge-3, a space dedicated to environmental improvement. The trees planted included Amla, Neem, and Ashoka—each selected for their ecological benefits, such as improving air quality, providing shade, and supporting local wildlife. These species are not only great for the environment but also have medicinal and nutritional value, making them valuable additions to the community.
This initiative is not just a one-time event. The We Foundation is committed to maintaining and caring for the area throughout the year. Our plan for the next year is to adopt Green Verge-3, ensuring that the saplings thrive and grow into mature trees. Regular monitoring and care will be provided to nurture these young trees and ensure they flourish, contributing to the long-term green development of the area.
Furthermore, The We Foundation is excited about expanding this project in the coming year. Our vision is to plant even more trees, create additional green spaces, and engage the community in sustainable environmental practices. By involving local residents and volunteers, we aim to build a sense of shared responsibility for the environment, inspiring others to take action in their own neighborhoods.
