Sharad Shamman

This year our theme is “Lighting up faces with smiles”. The We Foundation Sharad Shamman 2023 celebrates the social initiatives of puja committees undertaken during 2022-23 and the number of lives impacted through their initiatives.

To executive this theme, we were assessing the Puja Committees based on UNSDGs-sustainable development work undertaken by them in the broad thematic areas of Health and Nutrition, Education, Employment generation for Women and Youth, Relief, Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Climate Action.

Context: 

Durga puja brings smiles to our faces when our families and friends come together for Durga Maa Darshan and Blessings.

Objective: 

To promote Durga Puja Committees based on the social activities undertaken by them during 2022-23 and the community outreach services during Durga Puja 2023

Impact: 

Over 300 Durga Puja Committees across Kolkata and Howrah registered for TWF Sharad Shamman.

The winners of The We Foundation Sharad Shamman 2023 Award were:

  • 1st Place: Boshpukur Talbagan Sarbojonin for their tribal development initiatives and innovative Durga puja theme on tribal promotion.
  • 2nd Place: Ballygunge Cultural Association for their year-long sustainable initiatives on health and Nutrition for orphan children and the elderly. This year, their theme was ‘Kathaboli’ a unique amalgamation of words and Bengali poetry. They have used reused empty paint boxes for lighting up their pandal.
  • 3rd Place: Badamtala Ashar Sangha for their sustainable initiatives on health, girl child education and environment protection. This year, their theme was “Pratirup” which depicts the significance of nature in human life and the coexistence of the same for a healthy ecosystem.
