The We Foundation believes that everyone deserves access to clean, affordable energy. This belief aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7, which focuses on ensuring access to energy for all. For us, clean energy is not just about powering homes, but also about improving the quality of life, creating better opportunities, and helping communities thrive.
One of our most impactful projects took place in Naardigochha, a small tribal village nestled in the dense forests of Odisha’s Daspalla Block, had lived in darkness for generations. With no electricity, the villagers relied on kerosene lamps that were not only dim and expensive but also posed serious health and safety risks. Life came to a halt after sunset, making it hard for children to study, families to feel secure, or businesses to grow.
When The We Foundation learned about Naardigochha’s struggles, we knew we had to help. Our goal was simple: bring clean, sustainable energy to the village and improve the lives of the people living there. Solar power was the perfect solution, offering a reliable source of electricity even in such a remote area.
The project began with installing solar panels across the village. Homes, community spaces, and small businesses were powered up for the first time. The impact was immediate and heartwarming. Families could now light their homes at night, allowing children to study and parents to work on household tasks comfortably. The harmful kerosene lamps were replaced with safe, bright solar-powered lights, improving health and reducing the risk of fires.
The change didn’t stop there. Local shops and small businesses saw new opportunities with access to electricity. Villagers could charge mobile phones, extend their working hours, and explore new ways to earn a living. For the community, the arrival of light meant more than just illumination—it meant hope, progress, and connection to the modern world.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey was how the villagers became active participants in the project. We worked closely with them, providing hands-on training to install and maintain the solar systems. This not only ensured the project’s sustainability but also empowered the community with valuable skills for the future.
Today, Naardigochha is a transformed village. The once-dark nights are now lit with clean, reliable solar energy. Children can dream bigger, businesses can grow, and families can live healthier, safer lives. The story of Naardigochha is proof that even the most remote communities can thrive with the right support and solutions.
At The We Foundation, we are proud to have played a part in this transformation. This is more than just a story about bringing light to a village—it’s about bringing hope, opportunity, and a brighter future to the people who call it home.
