Prof. Gourishankar Patnaik MBBS, M.S (Orth) PhD has joined the American Spine Centre Muscat Oman as its senior Consultant and Head. He graduated in 1981-82 being the best graduate of the Nagpur University with a record seven gold medals. He had distinction in surgery, obstetrics and Gynaecology and Preventive and Social Medicine. He finished his Masters in Orthopedics (M.S.) from Nagpur University in 1986 with distinction. He is a globally recognized orthopedic and spine surgeon with more than 25 year’s of teaching and research experience in Oman, Nepal, UK, Malaysia besides India. He had many training stints in India, Middle East, UK and USA in trauma, sports medicine and spine surgery. Well-read and widely traveled Dr. Patnaik holds AO trauma fellowship from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA.
Dr. G S Patnaik is not new to Oman. He was a specialist orthopedic surgeon with Ministry of Health, Khoula Hospital, and Muscat for more than 15 year’s. Dr Patnaik has attended over 100 training sessions, workshops, and seminar and is often invited to deliver guest lectures and chair the sessions. He has more than 50 publications in international scientific journals. He was formally the professor in orthopedic surgery at Manipal University in Malaysia. Prior to joining the American Spine Centre Dr Patnaik was Professor and Head of Dept of Orthopedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Narayan Medical College Jamuhar, Bihar India and a senior consultant in orthopedic and spine surgery at the Kalinga and Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar , India. Widely traveled, his research interests include E-learning, Distance learning, Spinal injuries, Diabetes and arthritis. He has authored more than 15 books on topics ranging from anger management, spirituality and orthopedic and spine surgery which are a standard reference books in many universities, and is a prolific orator and teacher.
Dr G S Patnaik is the National convener of National Alliance for Mercury free Dentistry that is spearheading the campaign to effectively phase out mercury from usage in dentistry and promote use of alternatives, which are environment friendly and non-toxic.
