Empowering Girls through Menstrual Health and Education

Menstruation should not be a barrier to education, but for many young girls, it is. When girls miss school for 2–5 days each month due to lack of menstrual hygiene, they fall behind in their studies, leading to significant learning loss. This gap not only affects their academic performance but can also result in a lack of support from family and teachers, further hindering their progress.

Recognizing this challenge, The We Foundation launched Project Pari, an initiative aimed at promoting menstrual health, hygiene, and education for girls in Assam. With the support of corporate donors, Project Pari aims to improve the health, dignity, and educational outcomes for 8,000 girls in the region.

Breaking the Taboo, Fostering Change

Project Pari is working tirelessly to break the social taboos surrounding menstruation by creating awareness and providing essential support. Through the project, we are:

  • Distributing menstrual hygiene kits to 8,000 girls, ensuring they have the necessary products to manage their menstruation with dignity.
  • Raising awareness in schools and communities about the importance of menstrual hygiene, teaching girls about safe practices, and educating them on how to manage their menstrual cycle effectively.
  • Empowering communities to reduce stigma, allowing girls to attend school during their menstruation without fear of embarrassment or shame.

The Impact of Project Pari

The results of Project Pari are already being seen in the communities we serve. With better access to menstrual hygiene products and education, the following improvements have been noted:

  • Increased school attendance: Girls who once missed school during their menstruation are now attending regularly, significantly reducing learning loss.
  • Improved menstrual health: With the proper hygiene kits and education, girls are better able to manage their menstrual cycles, improving their overall health and well-being.
  • Boosted confidence and dignity: By breaking the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation, girls feel empowered and confident to continue their education without interruption.

A Brighter Tomorrow for Girls in Assam

By addressing the root causes of absenteeism related to menstruation, Project Pari is ensuring that girls in Assam can continue their education without compromise. With increased awareness and access to menstrual hygiene products, these young girls now have the tools they need to thrive academically and maintain their health and dignity.

Together, we can ensure a brighter tomorrow for these girls—one that is free from stigma, embarrassment, and disruption.
