Goal 7 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) aims to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.” Access to clean and affordable energy is essential for developing agriculture, business, communications, education, healthcare, and transportation. At The WE Foundation, we are dedicated to achieving this goal by promoting sustainable energy and environmental stewardship across communities.
Our Focus Areas:
- Promoting Renewable Energy: We work to expand the adoption of renewable energy sources like solar and wind in off-grid and remote areas, providing clean, reliable energy to underserved communities.
- Tree Tributes Initiative: In honor of World Environment Day and TATA Sustainability Month, The WE Foundation, in collaboration with TM International Logistics Limited (TMILL), is thrilled to unveil a significant green initiative. The project launched in Green Verges, New Town, Kolkata, commences a year-long effort to plant over 50 trees in green zones identified by the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA). This initiative will expand to plant 50,000 trees across Kolkata and Guwahati, enhancing urban landscapes with lush greenery and improving air quality.
- Energy Efficiency Programs: We implement energy-saving programs aimed at reducing energy consumption in local communities, businesses, and public spaces, lowering emissions, and fostering environmentally friendly practices.
- Training in Renewable Energy: Through specialized training programs, we provide hands-on education on renewable energy technologies, installation, and maintenance, enabling local communities to maintain and manage these solutions effectively.
- Capacity Building: We empower communities by building local capacity to sustain and expand implemented projects, ensuring a lasting impact on energy access and sustainability.
- Decentralized Energy Solutions: Addressing energy access gaps, we deploy decentralized solutions that bring clean energy directly to households and small businesses in isolated areas.
Engagement and Awareness:
Our projects leverage evidence-based implementation strategies in collaboration with government and private stakeholders. To enhance public awareness, we use multiple media channels—television, radio, print, and social media—to engage with communities, raise awareness, and encourage sustainable energy practices.
Impact Stories
- Empowering Local Farmers with Solar Power in Remote Villages: Through our solar installations, farmers in rural areas now have access to electricity, allowing them to irrigate their fields efficiently and enhance crop yields year-round.
- Green Verges New Town Initiative: This tree-planting project, launched in collaboration with TMILL and NKDA, has already revitalized local green spaces. With 50 trees planted in New Town and a long-term goal of 50,000, the initiative is transforming Kolkata and Guwahati into greener urban environments.
Solar PV Technician Training in Bangalore: In partnership with CGI, our Solar PV Technician Training is equipping 50 youth with valuable skills in solar technology, creating employment opportunities and fostering a new generation of environmental stewards.
