ShreeRaksha: Women Leading the Way in Taratala

Impact Story

In the bustling lanes of Taratala, Kolkata, women have long been the backbone of their families, yet their own voices and potential have often gone unheard. The WE Foundation’s Project ShreeRaksha is changing that narrative by empowering women to become leaders, educators, and changemakers in their community.

From Caregivers to Change-Makers

ShreeRaksha began as a movement to uplift women in Taratala, focusing not just on health, but on building confidence, knowledge, and leadership. Over the last two months, the project has engaged 1,000 women, 100 adolescent girls, and 100 children, creating a vibrant network of empowered individuals.

Through workshops and community sessions, women have learned to discuss issues like menstrual health, family planning, and nutrition in a safe, supportive environment. For many, these conversations marked the first time they felt heard and valued. Women have taken on new roles as mentors, sharing knowledge and guiding others to advocate for their own rights and well-being.

Stories of Transformation

Behind every number is a story of courage and growth:

  • Reena, once hesitant to speak up, now leads menstrual health workshops and inspires other women to do the same.
  • Priya, a young mother, found new confidence and purpose as she organized community meetings and supported other families.
  • The women of ShreeRaksha have built a culture of solidarity, where every voice matters and every woman feels empowered.

A New Era for Taratala

Empowered by their new roles, these women are shaping the future of their community. Project ShreeRaksha is not just improving health outcomes—it is igniting a movement of women’s leadership, resilience, and hope. With each woman stepping into her power, ShreeRaksha is helping to rebuild Taratala, one empowered woman, one household, one village at a time.
