Skilling for Entrepreneurship

The We Foundation is deeply committed to empowering women, especially those from underprivileged and remote areas like the hilly regions of Darjeeling. These women often face overwhelming challenges, struggling with poverty and limited opportunities. Our recent program in August 2024 aimed to break these barriers by giving 20 women from Bidhannagar 1 & 2, Phansidewa, and Katamari the tools they need to start their own food cart businesses. Through this course, these women learned how to make a variety of delicious momos, from traditional vegetable and chicken recipes to creative options like sweet corn momos. They also gained essential skills in food preparation, hygiene, and safety – practical knowledge that will not only help them earn a living but also help them stand tall with confidence. But this program was about much more than just learning to cook. It was about giving these women a chance to build a future for themselves, their families, and their communities. Financial independence through their food carts will enable them to take control of their lives, support their families, and uplift their entire communities. By empowering women, we empower families, and in turn, entire societies begin to change for the better. The women also received study materials and guidance on navigating challenges like sourcing ingredients and using kitchen tools, ensuring they are fully prepared to face the entrepreneurial world.

Looking forward, The We Foundation remains committed to walking alongside these women as they take their first steps into entrepreneurship. We will continue to offer mentorship, financial guidance, and additional training to help them succeed and grow their businesses. Through this program, we are witnessing the powerful transformation of women who, against all odds, are rising up to create a better life. We are not just changing individual lives; we are creating a ripple effect that will uplift entire communities. With determination and support, these women are on their way to financial empowerment – and with it, the ability to shape a brighter future for themselves, their families, and society.
