Amphan

We know that Anganwadi Centres provide young children (6 months- 6 years of age) with an integrated package of services such as supplementary nutrition, health care and pre-school education, and also extends care to adolescent girls, pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Therefore, the Anganwadis not only lay foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child but also reduce the incidence of child and maternal mortality, morbidity, malnutrition in the serving locality.

The Kolkata district has 1529 Anganwadi centres. Of the total centres, the infrastructure of some of the anganwadis centres was affected by supercyclone Amphan.

Understanding the present situation, The We Foundation has joined hands with the Directorate of Social Welfare,

Government of West Bengal to renovate four anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in Kolkata district and convert it into a “vibrant Early Childhood Development centre” to become the first urban outpost for health, nutrition and early learning.

The renovation work of four Anganwadi centres has been possible due to the generous donation and urgent support from India Carbon Limited. India Carbon Limited has a proactive management and CSR department and does actual development work in real time for the underprivileged children and women.

Together, we are renovating the centres to provide improved and safe infrastructure for children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women.
