Maintaining proper menstrual hygiene is essential for women’s overall health and well-being. By adopting healthy hygiene practices during menstruation, women can significantly reduce the risk of infections, such as bacterial scarring and urinary tract infections. Regularly changing sanitary products and using clean, safe methods help prevent discomfort and odors, promoting a sense of dignity and confidence.
The We Foundation launched Project Atmashakti to address these critical needs, with a mission to empower girls and women by improving menstrual health and breaking myths and taboos surrounding menstruation. Our project focuses on awareness and access: educating communities about menstrual hygiene and providing essential menstrual kits to those in need. Through our efforts, we were able to surpass our initial goal, reaching 880 women in Angul, Odisha.
In collaboration with the Odisha Livelihoods Mission, Angul Municipality, and with CSR support from Amritesh Private Limited, Project Atmashakti was implemented from August 4-6, 2023. This initiative included sanitary napkin kit distribution and an open panel discussion that provided a safe space for conversations about menstruation, helping normalize menstrual health and hygiene.
The We Foundation is committed to sustainable health initiatives that prioritize women’s health and community well-being. By addressing menstrual health through Project Atmashakti, we continue to make strides toward healthier, more empowered communities in Odisha. We are proud to be one of the leading NGOs for women in Odisha working to make menstrual health and hygiene accessible to all.
