Super-cyclone Amphan Crisis In Bengal And Odisha

When the people of West Bengal were fighting economic losses and flattening of the covid-19 curve, on 20 May 2020, the devastating amphan cyclone (135KMPH- 215 KMPH) broke the backbone of the vulnerable families.

The tropical cyclone amphan flattened their houses, uprooted trees and the saline water severely damaged paddy, vegetable cultivation and fruit orchards. First, they had no money to buy food materials and other household items, now they have no house to stay.

There is no electricity and drinking water in rural areas even after a month. In a nutshell, the 4 districts namely North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata and Howrah of West Bengal and Bhadrak and Balasore in Odisha are isolated/separated from the rest of India.

Relief Locations:
  • City slums and streets in 7 wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Kolkata, West Bengal
  • Slums and streets in 5 wards of Howrah Municipal Corporation, Howrah, West Bengal
  • Sandeshkhali-I, Sandeshkhali –II, Haroa and Hingalganj Blocks of North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal
  • Kakdwip Block (2 GPs), Pathar Pratima Block (4 GPs), Mathurapur-I (2 GPs), Mathurapur-II (2 GPs), Joynagar-I (2 GPs).
  • Balasore and Bhadrak districts of Odisha.
Relief kits to children and families of AMPHAN-affected areas:
  • Grocery Kit: Rice, Dal, Potato, Edible Oil, Soyabean, and Salt.
  • Infant and children food: Health drink (canned milk) and Biscuits.
  • Personal Hygiene Kit for women and children: Hand and Bath Soaps, Reusable Masks, Sanitizers, Detergent Bar and Sanitary Napkin.
  • Drinking water to affected families
  • Solar torch and lantern in rural areas.
