Inadequate menstrual protection alternatives, such as newspapers and old rags, expose women to health risks like urinary tract infections and bacterial vaginosis, with potential long-term effects on reproductive health. Recognizing the critical need for safe menstrual hygiene practices, The We Foundation launched Project Atmashakti in Margherita, Assam, to empower women and girls with the tools and knowledge needed for healthy menstrual management.
The primary goal of Project Atmashakti is to uplift the women and girls of Assam by improving menstrual health and hygiene. Through this initiative, we reached over 1400 women and their families in Margherita, fostering a transformative shift in hygiene practices and attitudes towards menstruation.
This groundbreaking campaign, the first of its kind in Margherita, was conducted in collaboration with Upper Assam Petro Coke Private Limited (UAPC), Margherita Municipality, and DAY-NULM Assam. Held at The India Club in Margherita, Tinsukia, the campaign engaged adolescent girls and members of self-help groups to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene. Through the distribution of essential sanitary kits and impactful discussions, Project Atmashakti encouraged behavioral changes, enabling women to manage their periods with dignity and confidence, without disruption to their daily lives.
As one of the prominent NGOs for women’s health in Assam, The We Foundation is dedicated to providing sustainable solutions that empower women to lead healthy lives. Project Atmashakti reflects our commitment to building resilient communities through awareness and accessible resources.
